Which Contract Verification Option Should You Use in Dubai?

Contract verification for OFWs in Dubai and Northern Emirates works through three separate channels: walk-in at MWO-Dubai for AED 40 cash with same-day processing, online through the DMW-DataFlow portal with a 3-working-day turnaround, or an appointment at a VFS Global Contract Verification Centre in Dubai or Abu Dhabi. Which one suits you depends on your timeline, whether you’re land-based or seabased, and whether you’re currently in the UAE or already in the Philippines.

What to do now:

  1. Check whether you’re OEC-exempt first — returning to the same employer and jobsite may mean you don’t need verification at all
  2. Confirm you’re a land-based worker before booking VFS Global — seabased workers use a different channel entirely
  3. Match your channel to your timeline: walk-in for urgent same-day needs, online or VFS for planning ahead

Do You Even Need Contract Verification?

Balik-Manggagawa (returning worker) status can exempt you from this requirement entirely.

Returning workers going back to the same employer and jobsite with a confirmed OEC exemption don’t need contract verification at all, under POLO Advisory No. 28-2022. You still need to keep your contract — verified or not — readily available for any government agency that asks to see it, but the verification step itself is skipped.

Three Ways to Get Your Contract Verified

Each channel has a different cost, speed, and eligibility requirement.

ChannelCostProcessing TimeBest For
Walk-in at MWO-DubaiAED 40 cash onlySame dayConfirmed flight within days
Online (DMW-DataFlow)Fee paid online3 working daysPlanning ahead, no urgent flight
VFS Global CVC (Dubai/Abu Dhabi)MWO fee + VFS convenience feeVaries, tracked via emailLand-based workers wanting appointment control

VFS Global’s Contract Verification Centres accept land-based workers only. Seabased workers — seamen, stewards, cadets, ship captains, boat drivers — must process their documents at the MWO where their original visa was issued instead, not through VFS.

Walk-In Verification — What to Bring and When

MWO-Dubai’s current walk-in hours are Monday to Thursday, 7:30 AM to 2:30 PM, and Friday, 7:30 AM to 12:00 PM.

Payment is AED 40 cash only, collected exclusively by the official cashier. MWO explicitly warns against transacting with fixers — anyone offering to speed up or arrange your verification outside official channels is operating illegitimately, and using them puts your documents and money at risk.

Pro tip: If your flight falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or Monday, visit MWO-Dubai on the nearest Thursday or Friday before your flight rather than waiting — the office follows a fixed one-working-day-before rule that doesn’t accommodate weekend flight walk-ins on short notice.

Booking Online Through VFS Global

You need a valid E-Registration Number before you can book a VFS Global appointment — register through the VFS portal first if you don’t already have one, since each OFW receives only one, issued a single time.

  1. Register or recover your E-Registration Number through the VFS Global OFW portal
  2. Book your appointment and pay both the MWO fee and VFS convenience fee online
  3. Print your appointment confirmation and letter
  4. Visit your booked Contract Verification Centre in Dubai (Wafi City) or Abu Dhabi (World Trade Centre) with your documents
  5. Collect your verified contract once MWO completes review — you’ll receive an email notification

Family or group applications each need separate individual appointments, even if you’re all submitting together on the same day.

Document Checklists by Worker Category

Requirements differ meaningfully by category — using the wrong checklist is a common cause of rejected applications.

Skilled and company-sponsored workers need: a valid employment contract matching their visa/Emirates ID with minimum basic wage of AED 1,500/month (2 copies), valid passport (2 copies), and valid visa/Emirates ID issued in Dubai or Northern Emirates (2 copies).

Domestic workers need one additional document beyond the above: an addendum to the employment contract (2 copies) — a requirement that doesn’t apply to skilled or company-sponsored categories.

Seabased workers need a separate one-page contract specific to seafarers, duly stamped by the employer and signed by the worker, alongside the same passport and visa/Emirates ID requirements.

If your visa was issued in Abu Dhabi or Al Ain, you’ll need proof of your actual work address in Dubai or Northern Emirates — this channel doesn’t cover Abu Dhabi/Al Ain-issued visas without that additional document.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does contract verification cost in Dubai?

Walk-in verification at MWO-Dubai costs AED 40 cash only, paid exclusively to the official cashier. Online and VFS Global channels involve separate fee structures, including a VFS convenience fee on top of the standard MWO verification fee.

Can I book an online appointment for contract verification in Dubai?

Yes, through two channels: the DMW-DataFlow online portal for document submission and processing, or VFS Global’s Contract Verification Centres, which require online booking and payment before an in-person visit for document submission.

Do all OFWs need contract verification?

No. Returning workers going back to the same employer and jobsite with a confirmed OEC exemption are not required to have their contract verified, under POLO Advisory No. 28-2022, though they must keep the contract available for inspection if requested.

Can seabased workers use VFS Global for contract verification?

No. VFS Global’s Contract Verification Centres in Dubai and Abu Dhabi accept land-based workers only. Seabased workers must process their documents through the MWO office where their visa was originally issued.
